Distance Learning 2020-2021
Dear Tam Families,
I am thrilled to be starting my 3rd year at Tam, my alma mater! The past two years here have been surreal yet wonderful and I have enjoyed so much reconnecting with the community I come from and the classroom I learned Spanish in as a high schooler.
We all know this year will be unlike any year we could have ever imagined, so to begin, I want to start with gratitude. I am grateful to be working in TUHSD, a district that has all of our health, safety, and wellbeing at the forefront. This year I hope that we can keep that in mind as we navigate together the trials and tribulations we experience. Let’s also acknowledge that we must come from a place of love and compassion, with good intentions, for no one has wanted… social distancing, no time together in our classrooms, illness, online learning, mastering new technologies etc. and all the stress that comes with it. Therefore this school year we will prioritize the following:
Online learning is not the same as face to face. Assignments will be different. We won’t be able to do many of the in-person kinesthetic activities that we usually do in Spanish class, so we’ll have to get creative. I welcome your input! We will be using the same Zoom link for every session and that link is located in your Google Classroom in a few locations: posted as a Doc under Weekly Learning Plans & embedded in your class info title page with the class image. Click the baby arrow for the dropdown portion to access info (what you see in white under the photo title tab). Note, our schedule is different the first few days of school. Thereafter, the bell schedule will look like this.
This year we will value intellectual nourishment and social connection. Synchronous Zoom lessons will allow us to learn together, collaborate with our peers and combat isolation while asynchronous (not at the same time) content will provide flexibility to accommodate diverse levels of curriculum access, time commitments and individual contexts. Please refer to my website for more detail on my syllabus, online protocols, virtual classroom organizational tools, wellbeing, Tam info and much more.
Between Covid-19 and the Racial injustices and subsequent Uprising everyone (me included) needs support and compassion. Let’s stay flexible and adjust to the situation. It’s uncertain how long the Pandemic will last, still we are resilient. Together we will get through this.
Let’s lead with love, for “love is the most durable power in the world.” - Martin Luther King
Gracias,
Ms. Gilbert

- finding simple solutions over complicated ones,
